Ife Journal of History

Ife Journal of History (IJH) is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering broad aspects of Africa’s past. IJH publishes original inter and multi-disciplinary academic articles in the humanities and in the social sciences with bias for historical methodology. The mission of the journal is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and the wide dissemination of high quality scholarly works.

Relevant contributions are invited from scholars all over the world. Articles should be typed double-space, in Times New Roman, twelve point font-size. Manuscripts should be submitted via e-mail as Microsoft Word files, together with the author’s personal information on a separate page, including the author’s names, address, e-mail address, mailing address, fax and telephone numbers. An abstract not exceeding 250 words and six key words should accompany the article. Photographs or visual illustrations should be carefully labelled, numbered and sent in JPG or JPEG format.

IJH prefers footnote reference method and this should conform to Chicago Manual of Style.

IJH will not accept any article already published or has been submitted for review elsewhere. Articles that are not in conformity with the journal’s editorial policy will be rejected without detailed reviewed.

About the Journal

Ife Journal of History is the official publication of the Department of History, Obafemi Awolowo University. Since 1962, the Department has been at the forefront of academic research in African history and culture, producing a body of knowledge recognized as the “Ife School of History.” The journal was originally designed as the medium of this specialization and academic debates around it.

Since 1993 the IJH has published articles on a wide range of issues about and involving Africa, including the place of African in the world, Ethnicity and Culture formation, etc. An anniversary edition to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Obafemi Awolowo University is devoted to review the historical narratives of the African experience in the light of current methodologies and new scholarly ideas.
